Life Safety Specialist
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designs, installs and/or oversees the work of contractors who install wiring in ULI new construction and remodel projects relating to systems. Reviews plans for all fire, camera, security, and life safety alarm work related to new construction to be certain work meets ULI requirements.
- Coordinates low voltage electrical work of contractors related to repair, renovation, and maintenance activities of systems.
- Performs or oversees contractors who perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and repair of ULI Commercial wide fire suppression systems.
- Oversees the work of maintenance contractors ensuring all systems are properly maintained, all tests conducted at the appropriate times and services are available during all operational periods. Reviews costs, invoices, and makes approval recommendations and adjustments as needed. This includes items such as fire hydrants, fire doors, fire extinguishers, heat, and smoke detectors and ANSUL systems used in kitchens.
- Obtains quotes for repair and/or installation of systems with in ULI commercial portfolio. Defines options and estimates costs, sets priorities and schedules for construction activities.
- Functions as the main point of contact for Emergency Power Supply systems. Coordinates testing, maintenance and repairs, preventive maintenance, inspections, etc. ensuring operational integrity of generators and UPSs.
- Participates in the on-call rotation for emergency service outside of regular business hours.
- Research methods, systems, or materials for purchase of systems. Keeps equipment updated and operational, meeting required local, state, federal and ADA requirements.
- Instructs employees in the use of systems.
- Maintains inventory of essential parts and equipment to ensure repairs and installation in a timely manner.
- Conducts independent fire inspections to ensure fire and life safety code compliance.
- Maintains an up-to-date working library of National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) codes.
- Responds to ULI emergencies.
- Maintains appropriate records as required.
- Responds to phone, email, voice mail, verbal, and written work orders.
- Knows and understands all safety procedures of ULI. Observes the work of contractors and brings safety concerns to their attention as needed. Reports all unsafe acts and conditions which remain uncorrected to supervisor. Allows no work to be performed when conditions are considered unsafe.
- Life Safety Coordinator develops budgets for project work and provides project coordination ensuring budgets are met.
- Remains current on new technology, methodology and equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Basic project management best practices.
- Applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations as they pertain to Fire, Card Access, and Life safety Systems.

- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to utilize office equipment including personal computers, mobile communication devices and software programs (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, payroll etc.).
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
- High school diploma or GED required.
- State issued driver’s license without restrictions with reliable transportation.
EXPERIENCE
- 5 years experience within fire and life safety code compliance.
- 2 years experience with life safety inspections.
- CCure Certification/Experience
- EST fire alarm experience a plus

This role offers a base pay rate of $32.85-$43.27 per hour, along with an annual bonus incentive and a competitive benefits package. Compensation is determined based on several factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, which may impact the final offer.

The Life Safety Specialist independently performs maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and installation of life safety and low voltage systems. They provide daily support for operations within ULI’s commercial and residential building environments.
