Energy Star Certification: US Bank Plaza
Urban Land Interests is proud to announce that the US Bank Plaza on the Capitol Square has achieved Energy Star Certification, showcasing its transformation into a model of energy efficiency and sustainability.
Originally built in 1974 and purchased by ULI in 2008, the US Bank Plaza underwent an extensive renovation that delivered impressive results:
- 35% reduction in energy usage
- 85% decrease in water usage
The renovation included installing new windows, upgrading HVAC systems, and implementing green cleaning products, earning the building both Energy Star Certification and LEED-EB Gold Status.
What is Energy Star Certification?
The Energy Star Certification for commercial buildings is a nationally recognized standard for energy efficiency, similar to the familiar rating system for household appliances. Buildings are evaluated against a peer group using the Commercial Building Energy Consumption Survey, which compares energy efficiency across various factors, including size, location, occupant numbers, and more.
Buildings are scored between 1 and 100, with a score of 50 representing average energy efficiency. To earn Energy Star Certification, a building must achieve a score of 75 or higher. The US Bank Plaza surpassed this threshold with a remarkable score of 86!
